Interview with Financial Literacy for Youths (FLY): Five-Minute Finance

Ian talks about how turbulent times in the market are the best time to invest, and that investors should consider it as a discount on good stocks and funds. Of course, the investment should only be made after investors have done their due diligence and researched the company first. Local investors should consider companies that have strong fundamentals, but had their share prices fall due to government changes or project cancellations.

Ian warns that if investors are unable to handle losing their invested money, they should probably not invest in the first place as their portfolio should consist of a portion that will provide consistent returns (normally at a lower rate) as well as a portion they are willing to lose.

For bumiputeras seeking passive income, Ian recommends the Amanah Saham Bumiputera (ASB) initiated by Amanah Saham Nasional Berhad (ASNB) which has good returns for its risk level. He is quick to add that investors should never take out loans to fund their ASB investments as it will produce a negative impact on their future loan applications.
